Cats as companions

I didn’t have any pets growing up so I didn’t know the joy of having a pet.  It wasn’t until we had a neighborhood cat that chose us to be his family when his own family moved away that I understood this.  This cat was the perfect pet, he would come around when he wanted food or to be played with and then went away to roam outside or be with another family in the neighborhood.  It wasn’t until one day when he didn’t show up anymore that we felt his absence.

I didn’t think we could have any animals in our house because my daughter is allergic to dogs and my mother-in-law is allergic to cats.  Around the time the cat disappeared, we knew someone who got an Ocicat.  They got this cat because they are allergic to cats but determined they could be around this type of cat.   An Ocicat is named for its resemblance to the Ocelot, but it is a breed from a Siamese and Abyssinian cats.  The breed is unusual because they are spotted like a wild cat but has the temperament of a domestic animal. This type of cat is very friendly and playful; they have been described as a “dog in a cat’s body”.

We have two cats, Sophie and Daisy, and they have provided so much entertainment and love for us.  My mother-in-law can be at our house without having any problems too.  Each cat has her own personality.  Sophie is sweet and even-tempered and Daisy loves to play and sit on your lap.  After having these cats in my life, I can’t imagine not having a cat.
